ITINERARY

  • Day 1: Visit Sigiria Rock Fortress

    On arrival you’ll be escorted through immigration and shown to the arrivals lounge.

    Once everyone has arrived we will meet our chauffeur guide and head to the cultural triangle which is with the origins of Sri Lankan history, Buddhism and spirituality. On route, you will pass through villages and vast coconut estates.

    In the evening we’ll visit the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress just 15 minutes drive from our hotel.

    Also known as Lion Rock, Sigiriya was built on top of a huge boulder in the 5th century. A palace, a rock fortress. The hidden castle of King Kasyapa. A Buddhist monastery from the 14th century. No where in Sri Lanka has generated as many theories and legends as the 180m monolith, set amisdt stunning scenery.

    Sigiriya consists of 1200 steps however there are two areas where you can take a break on the way up.

  • Day 2: Visit the Forest Monks & Dambulla Cave Temple

    After breakfast, we’ll visit the Ritigala Monastery for meditation and Alms Giving with Forest Monks. This forest hermitage is the abode of several monks who use hallowed-out caves and rough types of habitation as a retreat for meditation.

    Alms giving has been a part and parcel of Sri Lankan culture from time immemorial. Presenting monks with their last main meal for the day is considered to bring you long life. Afterwards, you will receive a special blessing from the monks for a safe journey and happy life together.

    After, we’ll travel to a village where you’ll have the opportunity to cook with a local family and enjoy a typical village rice and curry lunch in a beautiful setting.

    In the evening we will visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, the largest and best-preserved rock cave temple complex in Sri Lanka with more then 80 documented caves in the complex.

  • Day 3: Polonnaruwa & Boat ride to see Elephants

    After an early breakfast at the hotel we’ll proceed to the second kingdom of the country, Polonnaruwa.

    Polonnaruwa is home to the first Shiva Hindu Temple. The visit starts with the Kings Palace and Baths. We then visit three different tooth relic temples and the stupas. The visit ends with one of the most astonishing Buddha rock carvings in Sri Lanka.

    After, we’ll travel on to Gal Ola and check into our hotel.

    In the evening, we’ll enjoy a boat ride in Senanyake Samudraya to see the Elephants from the lake as they gather close to the water to drink and if you’re lucky even swim from island to island. The reservoir is also home to abundant birdlife, crocodiles and deer.

  • Day 4: Trek Monkey Mountain & Visit Veddha Village

    Start off in the early morning and trek to the summit for stunning 180-degree views of the surrounding landscapes around the Gal Oya Valley. During your trek you will walk through the villages until you come to the forest where a steep 2km trek across the stunning dry zone forest home to many birds, lizards and medicinal plants used by the indigenous community of Rathugaia.

    If you’d rather rest your legs, enjoy a boat safari in Senanayake Samudraya.

    In the late afternoon, we’ll go and meet the Vedda people and have a walk around their village. Their way of life is intricately entwined with the jungle rhythms, and you’ll be enthralled by their fascinating stories.

  • Day 5: Head to Koslanda for Rest & Relaxation

    After breakfast we’ll proceed to Koslanda.

    Koslanda is named for the area it sits in, a rural, remote village in the Hill Country. It’s the kind of place you get to and stop moving.

    The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.

    • None - relax and enjoy the forest surroundings

  • Day 6: Rest & Rejuvenate

    The day is at your leisure.

    We’ll have the chance to take a picnic down to the hotels private waterfall.

  • Day 7: Yala National Park

    After breakfast, we venture forth towards Yala National Park for a Sri Lankan safari.

    In the late afternoon we’ll jump onboard a game vehicle with an experienced naturalist to seek out elusive wildlife. This jungle excurion will give you the chance to see elephants, leopards, bears and deer along with the many avian species.

  • Day 8: Safari in Yala National Park

    We’ll take a packed breakfast and head into Yala National Park for an early morning game drive.

    The park consists of dry-mixed everygreen forests and scrublands along with open grasslands, water holes, brackish water lagoons and riverine forests. The park’s diverse habitat supports large numbers of mammals such as spotted, barking and mouse deer, sambhur, wild boar, water buffalo and the endangered sloth bear. This is also one of the best places in the country to see wild elephant and the rare Sri Lankan Leopard, having one of the highest Leopard densisites in the world.

    The rest of the day is at leisure.

    In the evening, for those who want to stretch their legs we’ll enjoy a bush walk with the inhouse naturelist.

  • Day 9: Retreat to Glenross Living for final night

    After a leiurely brekafast check out from the hotel and proceed to Horana approx 3 hours drive.

    Enjoy a wellness treatment at an extra cost (highly recommended).

    In the late afternoon we’ll embark on the Cinnamon Field Trek. Packed with acres of cinnamon, the trekking path unfolds between rocks and boulders and snakes its way around the best part of the property, where a perfectly times ascent will have you at the top just in time for a magical sunset. This will be surely one of those truly cherished moments that will dwell in your memory and the perfect end to our time in Sri Lanka,
